Hello Friends,
Welcome to October. It’s getting chillier here in Virginia, and my allergies are acting up, so it’s clear that the seasons are changing. In a time when life can feel a little like Groundhog Day (again) there is something reassuring about that. The only thing constant is change. This too shall pass.
So what helps us make the best and find the joy as it all passes? Netflix. Books. Podcasts. Food. Here’s my run down for this week:
What I’ve been watching
I’m on a cult kick. I am watching both The Vow and Wako. I find cults to be fascinating, and with 203 days of social distancing under my belt, all I can think is - well yeah, sure, they got brainwashed and forcibly branded — but look at all those people getting to be together. (It would seem that I'm a prime cult target at the moment.)
What I’ve been recording
One Year Alcohol Free AF. I was so honored by the response to my most recent Embrace Your Weird podcast episode. I loved knowing how many of you are also sober curious, even though like me, you are not addicted to alcohol. And I loved hearing from those of you who have struggled with your addictions and are taking back your power in recovery. Thank you for listening and for sharing your stories.
What I’ve been reading
The Immortalist. It was only meh. Great concept. It lost something in the execution. But it kept me interested enough to keep going until the end. (I am not a completionist when it comes to books. If you don’t hook me in the first 50 pages, I’m out. I know this is a controversial stance. #sorrynotsorry)
What I’ve been listening to
My friend Lulu Miller is the new co-host of RadioLab and I am excited for her because she deserves all the good things. I am also excited for the world because more Lulu in our lives can only bring joy. So I have been listening to more RadioLab, and if you’ve not heard the episode on RBG, it’s wonderful.
Quote I’m loving
"Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you." - Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
What I’m cooking
My friend has chickens and they are the prettiest chickens I have ever seen. Seriously, these are super model chickens. My friend gave me a dozen eggs this week, saying - “have some happy eggs from happy chickens!” She wasn’t kidding.
These happy eggs became a sweet pepper and Brussels sprout omelette with a side of slightly burnt hashbrowns. The slight burn was intentional. That’s how I like them.
I’ll leave you with that smile, and with the hopes you find more reasons to smile in the coming days. We’ll all try to be as happy as those beautiful chickens.
May you be well, be safe, be healthy, and live with peace.
~Lisa
