Happy Friday, Friends! And a happy new year!
This newsletter will be changing slightly in 2020, but for now, a weekly wrap up in the usual manner.
Here's what's been going on lately:
My favorite thing of the week

Olive and I took this whole “holiday” thing very seriously. There was much lounging on the couch (we generously made room for my husband) as well as eating good food, watching movies, and reading books. Speaking of which:
What I'm reading
Little Fires Everywhere - Celeste Ng
What I'm listening to
What I've been recording
A new episode of my Embrace Your Weird Podcast! This episode is all about new years-ish stuff. In case you feel overwhelmed by wanting to change but not knowing where to start, I talk to holistic wellness coach Cecily Armstrong about intuitive eating, self-compassion, and why sometimes it's totally fine to have a food-product covered in spray cheese.
What I'm looking forward to
I’ll be doing an event on Jan. 16th in Charlottesville, VA all about how to have All Year Resolutions, rather than New Years Resolutions that are forgotten by January 20th. I’ll share my personal story, some yoga philosophy, and scientific studies to back it all up. We’ll talk about mindfulness that can be universally applied to help alleviate anxiety, depression, or daily stresses. It’s an event for Common House members, but I have a few tickets, so if you’re interested in attending, send me an email request. You can read more about it here.
What I already know about
The Mrs. Doubtfire musical. I know. And thank you to all of you for making sure I know about it. And yes, I might go see it. If I do, I promise to let you know what I think of it.
Thanks for sticking with me through this shift to Substack. I might be adding in some additional writing to this newsletter, maybe some essays or other things that I’d like to share with you. If there is anything else you’d like me to write about - say, more top ten lists of my favorite 90s indy rock bands or my favorite taco recipes - please, let me know.
With love and gratitude always,
~Lisa
